Festival Overview
Charlton Park lies in the Wiltshire countryside near Malmesbury, where fields, old villages, estate woodland, and broad summer skies create a rural setting far from the speed of major cities.
WOMAD fills the park with music, dance, food, workshops, visual art, wellbeing, and artists from across the world, presenting traditions and collaborations without forcing them into one genre. The festival's reputation rests on discovery: a performer unknown at breakfast may command a tent by evening, while a workshop makes rhythm or movement physically understandable.
Camping and family participation give the weekend communal depth. The responsibility is to approach artists as contemporary creators rather than representatives of an exotic place and to recognize that the estate, weather, and temporary city require serious preparation.
