Festival Overview
Before an aircraft reaches Oshkosh, someone has already spent years reaching the aircraft.
A builder measured, drilled and riveted. A restorer searched for a missing part. A pilot studied weather, maintained proficiency and prepared to divert if the journey stopped being safe. A family packed camping equipment into whatever space remained.
Then the airplane arrives.
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual fly-in convention and aviation gathering at Wittman Regional Airport. For one week each summer, homebuilt aircraft, vintage airplanes, warbirds, ultralights, rotorcraft, seaplanes and contemporary aviation technology gather beside workshops, technical forums, exhibitors, youth programmes, museums and daily aerial demonstrations.
Calling it an air show identifies only its most visible hours.
The deeper experience waits on the ground. Builders answer questions beside aircraft they completed themselves. Restorers reveal work hidden beneath polished surfaces. Pilots sleep beneath wings. Technical knowledge passes through tents, workshops and conversations between people who may have known one another for years without meeting anywhere except Oshkosh.
The sky makes flight look effortless.
AirVenture returns attention to the hands, decisions and communities that made it possible.
