Overview
La Purísima in León unfolds through homes, not a single stage or plaza. Families build household altars to the Virgin Mary, decorate them for the Immaculate Conception, and open their doors as neighbors move from street to street singing Marian chants, praying, and receiving small aguilandos. The feeling is devotional first and social second: candles, paper decorations, voices rising outside front doors, and clusters of people gathering wherever an especially elaborate altar has been set up.
