Festival Overview
A basketball strikes concrete between apartment buildings.
The sound returns from balconies, parked cars and an open window. Someone calls for the ball. Another player enters the court without a formal introduction, and the game adjusts to make room.
Belgrade already knows how play becomes public.
Expo 2027 Belgrade is a three-month Specialised Expo. Held under the theme Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All, it will bring participating countries, international organizations, cultural programmes, performances, sport, music and interactive exhibitions to a purpose-built site in Surčin.
A Specialised Expo differs from a conventional world exposition in scale and focus. Its site is limited to 25 hectares, its duration cannot exceed three months and every participant interprets one shared theme within spaces constructed by the organizer.
The Belgrade site will contain international pavilions, a thematic zone and an area for corporate participants and recognized practices. Thousands of cultural and entertainment events are anticipated across the complete programme, though the exact pavilion, performance and reservation details will continue developing before the gates open.
The Expo will construct a temporary international city around play.
Belgrade will reveal what three months of construction cannot create: the neighborhood courts, music, cafés, rivers and daily negotiations through which people were already playing together.
