Festival Overview
Port Angeles faces the Strait of Juan de Fuca with Vancouver Island visible beyond the shipping lanes and the Olympic Mountains rising behind town.
Each October, CrabFest gathers that geography onto the waterfront: whole Dungeness crab meals, local restaurant dishes, marine education, tribal participation, music, and visitors arriving by road or ferry. The crab is more than a menu theme. Its name comes from nearby Dungeness, and its fishery belongs to the maritime economy and food traditions of the wider Olympic Peninsula.
Cold salt air, working-harbor views, gulls, rain gear, and steaming plates make the setting inseparable from the meal. The celebration feels communal because eating remains its organizing action rather than an accessory to a generic fair.
