Festival Overview
Vienne rises beside the Rhône south of Lyon, a compact French city where Roman remains, steep streets, stone terraces, and warm summer evenings create an unusually powerful frame for music. Jazz à Vienne centers on the Théâtre Antique, whose tiered seats and ancient walls hold major jazz, soul, funk, blues, and global artists beneath the open sky.
Smaller stages, clubs, workshops, and public programs extend the festival through town, allowing a visitor to move from archaeology and café life into serious nighttime listening. History is never silent decoration here: the amphitheater changes sightlines, acoustics, movement, and the emotional scale of a performance, making place as consequential as the program.
