Festival Overview
Set on the National Mall in Washington, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival turns the lawn between the museums into a working cultural campus of demonstrations, conversations, performances, and hands-on making. Instead of a single stage event, it unfolds as a series of encounters with artists, cooks, musicians, and tradition-bearers, with people drifting between tents, workshop spaces, and performance areas against the backdrop of the Smithsonian museums along the Mall and the Washington Monument area.
