Overview
Spicemas turns St. George’s into Grenada’s carnival capital, filling the city and surrounding roads with steelpan, calypso, soca, paint, powder, masquerade bands, and late-night fetes. The season builds through competitions and concerts before reaching its signature street events: pre-dawn J’ouvert, Monday Mas, Monday Night Mas, and the Tuesday Parade of the Bands. The experience is physical and participatory. Visitors do not simply watch from a curb; many join a band, follow music trucks, move between judging points, and stay out long after sunset. Grenada’s steep streets, harbor views, spice-island identity, and compact capital give the celebration a setting that feels distinctly different from larger Caribbean carnivals.
