The cheaper play is to stay farther out on an S-Bahn line and ride in early, rather than paying for a lakefront or old-center hotel on the night of the event. Food on the route is mostly simple fast options, but drinks add up fast over a full afternoon and night, and late departures can mean paying more for convenience if you miss your planned rail connection.

The tightest spots are Bellevue, the Bürkliplatz approaches, Quaibrücke, and the lakefront route in late afternoon and evening. Keep valuables zipped away, watch your footing on packed pavement, and do not count on making a quick exit once the central sections are full. Heat, dehydration, and long waits at tram stops or stations are as real as pickpockets here, so carry water and leave before the biggest late-night rush if you need a specific train.
