Festival Overview
Festa Major de Gràcia transforms Barcelona’s Gràcia neighborhood into a living gallery of handmade street art, where entire residential blocks compete to create elaborate themed environments built almost entirely by local residents. For months before the festival, neighbors design, construct, and install decorations that turn ordinary streets into underwater worlds, forests, fantasy landscapes, historical scenes, and imaginative creations made largely from recycled materials. Unlike festivals centered on a stage or parade route, the experience comes from exploration. Visitors move through Gràcia’s narrow streets discovering one transformed block after another, while cafés, balconies, apartments, and everyday neighborhood life remain woven into the celebration.
