Festival Overview
Before the concert, Sani faces outward.
Boats settle inside the marina. Restaurant tables look toward the water. Hotel balconies, beaches and paths across the resort have been arranged around private views of Halkidiki: sea, wetland, pine forest and the long summer light.
Then people begin climbing the hill.
Sani Festival is a summer concert and performing-arts series held at Sani Resort on the Kassandra peninsula of Halkidiki in northern Greece. Greek and international artists appear on individually ticketed evenings across several weeks, with programmes moving among jazz, pop, rock, soul, folk, classical music, dance and musical theatre.
The festival is privately organized by the resort, but it is not restricted to hotel guests. Visitors staying elsewhere in Halkidiki can purchase tickets and attend individual performances.
Every concert gathers on Sani Hill beside a protected medieval tower overlooking the Thermaic Gulf. The festival began as a small jazz gathering and developed into a cultural institution sustained on the same hillside for more than three decades.
That continuity changes the setting.
A resort normally allows each guest to construct a separate holiday. One person remains at the beach. Another reserves dinner. Someone else watches the sun lower behind the marina.
On a festival evening, those separate views converge.
Chairs face one stage. Conversation quiets across the hill. The sea remains beyond it, but the audience has stopped looking away.
