Festival Overview
Crankworx Rotorua brings elite mountain biking to the slopes of Mount Ngongotahā and into a city whose forests, geothermal landscape, and riding community have become inseparable from the sport. Downhill, slopestyle, pump track, dual slalom, whip-off, amateur events, Kidsworx, and industry demos turn spectatorship into a study of many disciplines.
The narrative is land under the tires. Rotorua's celebrated riding rests on volcanic soil, forestry history, trail building, mana whenua relationships, volunteer labor, and tikanga Māori. Speed becomes meaningful only when the ground beneath it is acknowledged.
The festival also dissolves the boundary between professional stage and everyday trail culture. Elite athletes compete within reach of children racing, local riders volunteering, mechanics working, and visitors heading into the forest themselves.
