Festival Overview
In Panchimalco, the Cofradía de las Flores y las Palmas honors the Virgin Mary through flower-laden palm structures, procession, prayer, music, dance, food, and collective work. The town’s historic church and steep streets give the ceremony an intimacy that a staged floral show could not reproduce.
The tradition combines Catholic devotion with Indigenous cultural memory and community organization. Cofradía members prepare palms and blossoms, receive participants, and sustain obligations that extend beyond the public procession. Visitors should approach the day as guests at a living religious practice, not as customers at a decorative market.
