Festival Overview
Before the park becomes crowded, an artist lifts one painting from the wall and replaces it three inches higher.
They step backward.
The river catches light behind the booth. Downtown Tampa rises across the water. Along the paths, hundreds of other artists are making the same final decisions: straightening a ceramic vessel, cleaning fingerprints from glass, turning a sculpture until its shadow falls correctly.
Gasparilla Festival of the Arts is a free, juried outdoor fine-art festival held at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in Tampa. Selected artists exhibit original painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, glass, fiber, printmaking, mixed media and other work while competing for major juried awards.
The programme also supports emerging artists and includes live art, music, food and activities for children. It is independent from Tampa’s pirate parade, music festival, film festival and other events carrying the Gasparilla name.
The park supplies the walls only temporarily.
The artists give people a reason to stop.
