Festival Overview
Canberra’s straight civic lines are interrupted by several languages arriving at once. The National Multicultural Festival is a free, three-day community-led celebration in the city center and Glebe Park, where cultural communities share food, music, dance, language, stories and heritage on Ngunnawal Country.
The capital usually represents the nation through institutions. Here, communities represent themselves in the streets between them. Identity becomes an action—cooked, spoken, taught and negotiated—rather than an official description.
