Overview
For nine days in Phuket, Chinese shrines across Phuket Town and Kathu become the center of a strict vegetarian observance marked by prayer, incense, firecrackers, and public acts of devotion. The festival is most intense around Jui Tui Shrine, Bang Neow Shrine, and Kathu Shrine, where white-clad devotees keep the ritual period and processions carry the energy out into the streets. This is not a stage show dressed up as tradition; it is a lived Taoist-influenced observance in which shrine visits, offerings, and the presence of ma song spirit mediums shape the day from before sunrise onward.
