Festival Overview
Thessaloniki faces the Thermaic Gulf as a dense Balkan port of Byzantine churches, Ottoman traces, modernist blocks, university life, markets, cafés, and an unusually public relationship with cinema. The International Film Festival links the Olympion on Aristotelous Square with converted warehouses on Pier A, turning the waterfront walk between them into its central social corridor.
Greek premieres, international competition, Balkan and Mediterranean work, retrospectives, masterclasses, exhibitions, immersive projects, and Agora industry activity fill the city in late autumn. The sea, café culture, and compact venue geography prevent the event from feeling sealed inside screening rooms; cinema spills directly into the urban evening.
