Overview
Thingyan turns Yangon into a soaked, noisy New Year city where celebration happens out on the roads rather than behind gates. Temporary Thingyan pandals rise along major streets, pickup trucks and cars roll through splash zones, and people move between water stations, family visits, and moments of merit-making. In the same day you might see thanaka on faces in the morning, hear blasting sound systems by late morning, and then watch the mood soften toward food, visits, and New Year observance as evening comes on.
