Overview
In the historic center of Latacunga, the Mama Negra Festival plays out as a moving street ritual around Parque Vicente León, the Latacunga Cathedral area, and the central streets used by the procession rather than from a fixed stage. The defining image is the Mama Negra procession itself: masked characters and dancers, mounted horse sections, bands, and ceremonial figures passing through tight central blocks where Andean and Catholic symbolic blending is visible in costume, movement, and crowd response.
